Competition season is coming

Competition season is fast approaching and that means tons of organization on my part to make sure I have caregivers for my kids while I am away every weekend. From planning meals (even for myself!), and times I will be home and away, everything has to be planned. How do you stay organized with your busy schedule? Do you use technology? Or do you stick to the old pen and calendar? I use a bit of both; it helps to have some things electronic to send to the important supporters in my life to keep the lines of communication open and clear! What works best for you?

Today’s Inspiration

The Sun Will Come Out…

It might be raining outside today, but inside at rehearsal tonight – it will be about the sun! We are finishing the last the finale piece today and the inspiration is the sun. So closer your eyes and feel the light and the warmth. It’s coming!

Right Time, Right Place

Sometimes I find if you try to force things to happen, they usually don’t go the way you want them to.

I love it when things come together naturally, organically without much force. Not to say that you shouldn’t work hard to get results, but you have to know when to stop pushing and when to push through.

I think I am pushing too hard. It is good to recognize these times.

So it’s a new year and rehearsals have begun and are in full swing!

In the past I have always approached my choreography very scientifically. There has always been a strict process in my mind and the rules only set by me. And what for?

So in the past year since I have returned home , it has been full throttle ahead. I decided to take another approach to creating choreography. I wanted to have more of a free form, be less strict about how I go about creation. Let things come a little more organically, let myself make mistakes. Sometimes, I would come into the studio and have shapes and sets of movements that I wanted to put on dancers, but no transitions, no set counts. At times I would let the dancer improv and then I would weave what I saw with what was in my imagination.

I took workshops on choreography, different styles of dance. I wanted to be a sponge and take a look from a different angle.

These days I have branched into a dance style that is totally foreign to me and fusing it with contemporary dance has been an exciting experience. We are having a lot of fun in the studio and I can’t wait to show at the end of February!

Where does your inspiration come for your art?

Getting Out What You Put In

Dancing Feet in Rehearsal

No matter what you do, you should always put your best foot forward. Why? Because you never know what this experience could lead to.

When you don’t do the best possible job that you can do, you are only wasting not only other people’s time, but your own. It kills me to see ANYONE take on a job and then do a half-way effort. Every new job leads to meeting new people, new experiences and you can learn new things. Be open to these moments. No matter if I am teaching a class, or running rehearsals – I expect everyone I work with to give me their all, because I do the same for them.

Life is what you make it! You only get out what you put in So get out there and show them who you are and what you can do!

November Books

Wooooo it has been a busy reading month! I have some time to make up for 😀

72. Winner Stands Alone-Paulo Coelho
73. Stupid to the last drop: How Alberta is bringing environmental Armageddon to Canada (and doesn’t seem to care) William Marsden ****** READ THIS BOOK!
74. The face in the mirror – Marion Crook
75. So many Books, So little Time – Sara Nelson **** a book about a women who decided to read a book a week. She did it, but she re-read books and I consider that cheating. I haven’t re-read a single book this year! That was one of my own rules when I started
76. Fat Girl-Judith Moore
77. The Tao of Pooh – Benjamin Hoff **** Thanks to Lisa for this little gem! Adam is reading it too!
78. Chicken Soup for the Adopted Soul -Jack Cansfield, etc
79. Fahrenheit 451 -Robert Burberry **** Love it!
80. Newlyweds of Convenience -Jessica Hart *** Now I didn’t want to resort to reading the romance novels, but I think it’s time to pull out all the stops. They are a nice, quick read!
81. Last Minute Proposal -Jessica Hart

Now, I am still going to try to make it to 100 books by the end of the month. I still have a couple of text books that I am finishing up and well and I am NOT a quitter!! I will  update as much as possible, so come back often and see if I can reach my goal!!

I have already finished one book for this month called As Nature Made Him- The boy who was raised as a girl. Written by John Colapinto, it is about a pair of Canadian twins and their horrible accident. Well written and interesting… very disturbing about how things can spiral. Things are still not right 40 years later!!
