So it’s a new year and rehearsals have begun and are in full swing!
In the past I have always approached my choreography very scientifically. There has always been a strict process in my mind and the rules only set by me. And what for?
So in the past year since I have returned home , it has been full throttle ahead. I decided to take another approach to creating choreography. I wanted to have more of a free form, be less strict about how I go about creation. Let things come a little more organically, let myself make mistakes. Sometimes, I would come into the studio and have shapes and sets of movements that I wanted to put on dancers, but no transitions, no set counts. At times I would let the dancer improv and then I would weave what I saw with what was in my imagination.
I took workshops on choreography, different styles of dance. I wanted to be a sponge and take a look from a different angle.
These days I have branched into a dance style that is totally foreign to me and fusing it with contemporary dance has been an exciting experience. We are having a lot of fun in the studio and I can’t wait to show at the end of February!
